Arrived and Settled

First of all, we are safe and dry. The flooding is north of where we are, so we have been very lucky. We have had crazy weather (lightening and thunder storms) and a lot of water, but no flooding. Thanks to all those who have called or written to see how we are. But, keep the others in the state in your prayers and thoughts.

So, after eight days in the extended stay, we were so excited to get into the apartment and have a place of our own. The night before felt like Christmas Eve! When we arrived I rushed in to check it out and was shocked. The place was really nice, but as we took a closer look, it was filthy! I will spare you all the details, but it took me three hours to clean the fridge, we had to take the tracks off of the bathroom tub/shower because they were so disgusting (we didn't shower for two days because I refused to get in the shower like that) and the oven took three days to get clean (how do people live like that?!). I was in tears when I saw the mess. But, after three days of hard cleaning and organizing, the apartment looked great. Here are a few pictures of the unloading process --

Cole fell asleep while Russ and my dad were putting the BBQ together -- isn't this picture sweet?!

In the middle of all of the chaos of moving, Garrett rolled for the first time. I think he was just tired of being in his car seat or the swing. I even got it on video. Yay! Good job, Garrett!

My parents came and stayed for five days and helped us get settled. They hung pictures, fixed furniture, organized and did all sorts of projects. But, the best part of having them here was the time they spent with Cole and Garrett. I think Cole said, "Grandpa, what are you doing?" about a million times while they were here. He wrestled with Grandpa, learned a new saying (ring the bell, knock on the door, peek in...) and followed him everywhere. In the morning he would yell down the stairs, "Grandpa, wake up!" With Grandma he read books, played with his Thomas trains (Grandma built an amazing track), and played the marble game. Garrett loved being held by both of them and even spit up on them both!! It was a fun weekend and we are thankful they were able to stay.

Here are pictures of our little home at the extended stay hotel. Now that we are settled and it is a memory it is fun to look at, but at the time it was less than enjoyable. It's all part of the adventure!

So glad to hear your are safe and sound. Glad your folks could be there to help, too. There's nothing like family! Cole is so cute with his Grandpa.

I was just thinking about you guys getting wet! Good to hear it isn't around you. I love all the pictures. Cole looks so content in his swing. Garrett looks like he LOVES your milk! I can't wait until we are close to see you guys more often.

Happy you are made it safely to your new home. I would be the same way about the cleaning thing, you have to start out with it clean, you just have to. I probably would have braved the shower though, with flip-flops on. I actually keep a "shower pair of flip flops" in my travel bag for just such occasions, you just never know. My mission made me a lot braver with stuff like that, and also taught me the showering with flip flop trick. You'd never dare take off your shoes, ever, in the shower or out! Anyway, very happy you are safe and most importantly, dry. Best of luck getting everything unpacked, settling, and starting in our your adventures in a new town!

We are glad you made it to your new place! Good thing Russ could help out so much before getting back into school.

Mom & Dad said they had a great time visiting you. Send more pics of your place when you get a minute. I am trying to get Christmas ideas.

We are so glad to hear that you guys are okay. It sounds like you have had some CRAZY flooding in the area. I hope it stops raining soon! I love the pictures of Garrett rolling over - he is so adorable and I cannot believe how old he looks! What happened to that brand new baby?

Enjoy your new place! It looks like it will be a nice one for you guys!

I am so glad you guys made it and are finally feeling settled! It's so nice to get in to your own place and have your own stuff. I love that you stayed in an extended stay suite. What a crazy adventure but thank heavens, the worst is over! Your boys are so handsome! You guys have cute kids! Congrats to Garrett on rolling over! I wish Nicholas would figure it out! Karlee has been rolling for months but I guess my little guy is just content where he is at! We are getting ready to move here in two weeks and I am NOT looking forward to it! Moving is such a process! I know you are not jealous. Loved all of your pictures!

I can not believe how much that little Garrett has changed already. I had to go get Ryker and show him the pictures of Cole. He loved them and now he keeps asking to go to Cole's house. I hope someday they can play again. I'm glad you like your place. We miss you guys already. Good luck with everything.
