So, right new we are staying at a Holiday Inn Express in Indiana (I don't even know the town). I'm not sure exactly where we are or where we are going. We left our home in Virginia and took the 64 West and haven't had a chance to look back. We promised Cole that he could swim at the hotel tonight, so our only requirement was an indoor pool (which he absolutely loved!!). We are heading to Nauvoo tomorrow to spend a day or two and then are planning to make it to Iowa City in the next few days. We can't get into our apartment until June 2, so we are officially nomads! I really don't know what we are going to do with a lot of time and no home, but know that it will be a little crazy. I don't handle change very well, so by the time we get moved into our place I might be officially labeled "Katrina the Grouch". Today Cole looked at me and said, (while rubbing my ear - the thing he does for comfort) "I want to go home, Mommy." I got a little choked up (tears welling in my eyes) and said (half heartedly), "We are going home. We have a different home now." Cole knows we are moving to Iowa, but he doesn't really grasp what that means. I don't think I really grasp what that means, but I do know that a new adventure awaits us and once we finally get settled we can begin exploring, finding new friends, and making a new life for our little family in Iowa. But, the time between now and then sure could be interesting! Two little boys with short or no naps, fast food three times a day, lots of time in the car, and a grouchy mother -- I hope we make it!!
Russ' parents, Steve and Karen, have been so great to have along on this adventure. It has been nice to have two extra set of hands and legs to chase Cole or hold Garrett. They have even driven the Jetta -- they are troopers!! We are grateful for their help, love, and support.
Here's to a new life around the corner or half-way across the country!

Howdy Russell, Katrina, Cole, & Garrett!
Good luck with the move and settling in to your new home. Y'all are troopers for having to move all that way then stay in a hotel until you can finally move into your place and all of that. I hope you enjoyed the time in Nauvoo -- what a great place. We're thinking of you and are excited to hear how things are with your new adventures in Iowa.

Oh, the things we do so our wonderful husbands can go to school! :) I hope you survive the next week until you can get into your place. I guess it will just give you lots of time to get out and explore your new home! Good luck this next week!
Hi Katrina! I'm glad you found our blog -- it's definately been a while! Good luck in your move and getting settled. I'll keep tabs on you through your blog, but congrats on boy #2 and good luck with them -- brothers are so much fun for little boys to have!
Katrina, it's good to hear you guys are making progress getting across the country. I was thinking of you guys today and remembering how much we loved holidays living in the midwest. I hope you guys love your time in Iowa!! We miss you!!
I'm suprised you already posted! We just made it back last night it took us 6 days to drive across the country. It's nice to finally eat normal food. But we don't move into our house until the middle of june, so we can be nomads together...sort of...just a thousand miles away.
Hey! It is good to hear from you since you left Virginia. :( We miss you all already. Best of luck with the next few weeks. Keep in touch.
Hi,
I just ran across your blog.
I hope you don't mind if I ask where you got that scribbling thing on the left of your page.
It is very nice, I would like to have something like that.
Have a great day
Kathy
If you have to be nomads, Nauvoo is a great place to be one. I could blow several days there! It's got to be tough with two little ones, but it sounds like you have lots of help, so that is a great blessing. Enjoy the adventure!
I remember the days of traveling across the country! We did it TWICE and it sucked. We saw a lot of sites and learned a lot, but I remember the stops for bathroom runs or just to take a run around the car in general - and those saved us. Good luck! At least only one of your kids talk because when Cam and I did it, we would fight about who was crossing the line in the backseat constantly.
Good luck to you guys and settling in. You'll do great and make friends so easily. I hate moving, but love the adventure of starting over and doing something new. How's the baby doing? Your family is adorable! I can't remember if I've posted to your blog yet, but if I forget, I'm so glad you found me, and it will be fun keeping in contact thru blogs. Good luck!!

Wow! All I can say is good luck! You guys are quite the troupers. I'm sure you'll look back on your nomad days and smile. But, I wish you a quick return to "home."
What a great and hard transition. I guess only look at it like quite the adventure that you may never do again. How wonderful that you are all together and get to go to a new and exciting place and doing it before the boys are school aged.
ps. Alyssa is having a dental crisis. I can't wait until we have Dr. Uncle Russ back to help out!!
We sure enjoyed our visit and travels with you guys! We miss our little Cole saying "Gra-a-andma" and "Gra-a-a-ndpa" and Garrett's great big smiles! only four more days!!!
