Cole has recently fallen in love with the Dinoco Trailer from the Cars movie. We decided to have him do chores to make money to buy it himself. He gets 25 cents for each extra chore that he does. Dishes, dusting, moping, sweeping, etc. are types of chores that he has been doing. It has been a really good lesson for him, but I think I have learned more than he has. I've learned that I haven't taken the time to teach them HOW to do simple chores -- it was easier to do them myself. With Cole helping I have also had to learn how to let him do it HIS way, not mine, and to be happy with the results.
So, Cole is learning the value of hard work and money (not to mention the 10% tithing to be paid before he buys the Dinoco Trailer). Aren't life lessons great!!
Mopping -- isn't he the cutest worker?!
Sweeping - he asked me, "How do you get under the table?" I guess he figured it out!
Wiping off the table -- I think it might be dirtier after his feet have been on the table, but at least he was able to reach all of the spots!!

Love the table cleaning:) The hardest thing about teaching kids to work is accepting how they do the chores. If you ask a three year old to clean something you get a three year old job. I still think it's easier to do it myself most of the time, but the value of work is so important not to mention having them save for something. K saved for two years to get an ipod touch. He treats it better than anything he's ever been given. He had to work and save hard for it. Your little guy will love that truck he worked so hard for. So miss you guys!
I love it! Grant and Lily unload the silverware from the dish washer and help me with the laundry. It is kind of hard to not correct them too much and just be happy with their strong efforts. No matter what, though, I'm greatful for some help!
So cute. Best of luck on keeping him excited about working. He may ask you for more money after he realizes it isn't fun anymore.
Just wondering, did you go back and wash the table after he did?
so fun! I really struggle letting Kaden do chores to because sometimes it does make more work for me later but it is worth it (at least I hope so anyway). CUTE pictures!
I have to say I agree with you on letting the kids take over. It is sooo hard to just let them do it, hopfully with time it will pay off for us though, right? I have MaCade roll the wash clothes from the laundry and put them away. Needless to say we have a very unorganized drawer full of wash clothes. (at least for a few hours anyway). P.S. Cole is so cute, and getting really big. Miss you guys.
That picture of Cole on the table is hilarious, what a good way to solve the problem. I agree, it is hard to have them do chores and after being your roommate, I know that you like things a certain way. Good for you though, I have the same problem. We are teaching our kids good skills though, right?
So adorable! I think I need to come over and learn a few lessons in cleaning from you!
