This past Friday was the ward campout and I decided that camping with a six month old didn't sound fun (actually, nursing in the middle of the night in a tent didn't sound like a great time) so I sent Russ and Cole, while Garrett and I stayed home. Garrett had a horrible day of sleeping (I seriously think he has insomnia) so I was a little frazzled by the time I got all of the camping gear together for Russ and Cole. I was thrilled at the idea of having a quiet night to myself after such a crazy day. But, as we started loading the car, I realized this was Cole's first camping experience and I was going to miss it. As they drove off I got a little teary-eyed. The only time I have slept apart from Cole was when Garrett was born.
Russ and Cole had tons of fun. They went fishing (Cole had a stick and pretended to fish in the lake), roasted marshmallows, slept in the tent, and had pancakes for breakfast. It was a "guys" domain. But, when it was time for bed Cole said to Russ, "I want mommy to come in the tent with me. I am done with my pajammies." Yes - Cole missed me! Even though he loves being with his dad, he still needs his mom!!

After they left, Garrett and I played a bit and while he was rolling on the floor I noticed that he was sucking on his toes. So, I got the camera because I tought it was so cute. It was cute for a while, but now I think it is quite gross! Once Garrett was in bed (I put him in a pair of Cole's jammies from when he was that age -- sorry, Gar - I'm sure you will need therapy some day, but I was missing your big brother!) I walked into Cole's room and had to tidy it up and think about him. Funny how I couldn't wait for them to go, but once I was alone, all I could think about was Cole and Russ. I had plans to scrapbook, clean or do something productive, but I just ended up falling asleep on the couch at 9:00 PM and getting nothing done. How ironic!
How can he bend like that?
Yummy toes -- or yucky if you ask me!

So true! I do the same thing and am excited for a little quiet time but once I have it I can hardly wait to get my family all back together. I guess this mommy stuff just runs deep! You really are a great little mom.
Just think, Katrina, in a year or so you can send all the boys off together and really have some free time. Of course what would it be like to truly have FREE time? What would we do???
I think it's so cute that Russ took photos at the campout. As for you, the day will come when it's easier to let them go away for a night. In the meantime, love every minute having them there even if it means not much time to get stuff you want to get done. I am the same way with scrapbooking though. If K is gone and I'm missing him, I can't scrapbook because it makes me miss him more. Pitiful huh?
It's nice to get time alone, but you do end up missing them. Sleep is good though, so don't feel bad about not accomplishing anything. We sure miss you guys!
Elder Guymon!!!
Long time no see! It looks like you have a great family. Here is my blog,

talk to ya later,
Elder Fogg!!
Looks like they had a great time camping! Isn't it funny how when you are with your kids 24/7 you think it would be great to have a break and then when you get it all you can do is miss them!?! :)
Hey remember...life can never get any better if you have ALL the boys on a campout and you have the house all to yourself. And remember, you are up many many nights in the middle of the night taking care of the boys...load up on daddy-son trips if you can.
Katrina Your Biys are getting so big!!!! I can't wait to see Garrett. I hope you are still coming home soon. It will be nice to see you! Well I hope that everything is going wonderful!!! Love you guys
i love it when they suck on their toes! cute pictures, they're getting so big!
love the tongue out shot. even though you missed your big guys, nursing in the middle of the night in a tent does not sound ideal. and the fact that you got extra rest by falling asleep early sounds SO heavenly. you probably needed it. I think my dude has baby insomnia, too.
My heck your kids are getting so big. And Cole is such a little man, setting up the tent and all. It looks like you guys are doing really well.
