Monument Ave 10K

Yesterday, April 5, I ran the Monument Avenue 10K. When I signed up for the race I was sure that I would have Garrett early and that I would be ready to run. But, Garrett was born close to his due date, so it has barely been six weeks since his birth. I haven't even had my post partum check-up yet (don't tell Dr. Smith!), so I think I might have been pushing it a little. I haven't run more than a mile in months and months and haven't even exercised since September. But, when I signed up I thought, "I can run 6.2 miles - no problem!" The morning of the race I should have known to go back to bed when the Maxima was completely dead when I tried to start it (I had to take the Jetta, which is a party in itself!), the weather was cold and rainy (it rained the entire race), and I signed up for the wrong wave and had to sneak my way into the wave of the girl I was running with. The first three miles were great, but then my body reminded me that it had just had a baby. My friend has a knee injury, so we were quite the team! We ended up walking two miles and running the rest. A nice older guy stopped to see if we were alright (because who walks a race?!) and I explained, "I just had a baby and she has a knee injury". I think he thought we were a little crazy! Crazy or not, we finished the race and enjoyed seeing the monuments. I don't plan on running six miles again for a while, but am anxious to start exercising again!

Whoo hoo!! We have been hoping you would start a blog so we can see more cute pictures of those handsome boys ( and their parents, too, of course)! I am so impressed that you ran the race!! I was just telling Bryan today how I admire you for keeping up on the exercising thing so well with kids, seeing how that is a definite struggle for me! Anyway, welcome to the blogging world, and cute pictures of the boys!!

Welcome to the world of blogging! Watch out! It's totally addicting! Your blog looks great! I cannot believe you ran a six mile race just after having a baby only a few weeks ago! AMAZING! When do you find time to exercise? I attempt it but it's always interrupted. Your boys looked so cute in their Easter outfits! What handsome little guys!

Welcome to the blogging world! I have found it is so much fun and a great excuse to keep a 'journal'!! I'm so excited you are starting one. I was just telling mom that i wished you guys would so I could see more pictures of those cute boys we don't get to see very often! They are really, really cute!

I am so glad you decided to take the plunge into the blogging world. I swore I'd never add one more thing to do in my life, but it really has been a fun way to keep in touch with friends. I can't believe that you ran in a race after having a baby. Of course, I've never had a baby, and I've never run a race! You're amazing, and look awesome by the way! I'm happy I can see you're cute family now, you're only a click away.

That's awesome Katrina...in Dec i ran a half-marathon and it was hard and long but I had been training for 6 months or so. 6 miles is still a really long way to run, especially when you were only 5 weeks or so post-baby. Maybe you won't sign up next baby huh?! :)
